Hey everyone, as you may know we made an announcement at our most recent meeting that starting next fall we're looking to fill positions on STEM Club's board of directors.
What this means: The board of directors are the people behind everything at STEM club, and the ones who make it such an awesome place to be. As of now, we're looking for the positions as follows: Vice President (4), Secretary, Treasurer, and PR. Our board of directors (minus me), that you all know from this semester are (hopefully) all moving on to bigger and better things, and in order to keep STEM Club at its current glory we need new motivated people to run the club.
Qualifications: If you're a regular at STEM Club, you know that we don't like to exclude anyone from anything, so any club member may apply for any of the positions in bold above (vice president, secretary, PR, treasurer).
If you're interested in a position- Contact anyone from the current board by email, message, or whatever means you feel comfortable with. Tell us what position(s) you're interested in, and why you think you'd be a good fit and we will go from there. Positions will be voted on this semester and those voted into office will be effective immediately. Remember, this is a great chance to learn how to be a better leader and public speaker - All kinds of studies have shown that those involved in leadership as undergrads do better in any type of career/further schooling.
Vice president(4): These people are the main driving force of the club, and are first and foremost advisers to the president. What they do falls into two major groups; planning, and projects. The Vice Presidents (VP's) work with the president and the other members of the board to plan all meetings, events, advertisement and just about anything else happening in the club. Secondly, VP's lead the club's projects (like the quadcopter and cloud chamber), helping the groups stay within the clubs means and ensuring the projects get done. Vice Presidents are also expected to learn/know how the club is run, and in the absence of the president for any reason, they are expected to run the weekly meetings/board meetings. If you're interested in being a VP remember that this position takes creativity and self motivation - but it's also very fun, the only real qualification we have is that you must be enrolled in STEM classes, or planning on a career in a STEM field. VP's are expected to attend a weekly board meeting, and the weekly general club meetings - there many be some work to do outside of these meetings as well.
Note Taker/secretary: The note taker is one of the most important people on the STEM board, as this person is in charge of recording information at the board meetings as well as general meetings. For instance, the note taker will attend all board meetings and record ideas, dates, commitments, and anything else the club has going on. The note taker is a major organizer of the club, If interested, keep in mind that this position needs someone who's organized, attentive and motivated. (The note taker also gets input into STEM club much like a vice president, and is a part of the bard of directors).
Treasurer: The treasurer is in charge of the club's finances. This involves keeping track of money earned/spent (as well what what it was spent on), organizing reimbursement of funds, and writing LEAD funds proposals for the club. As with the note taker, this person needs to be very organized and will attend all board meetings and club meetings. (The treasurer can in fact be combined with another position, for example, if the note taker wishes to also be the treasurer, that's fine)
Public Relations: This is STEM's outreach position, the PR officer is responsible for two big areas, firstly advertisement for the club. This includes our bulletin board, the weekly rotating flyers, and any other visual media that advertises the club. Secondly, the PR officer manages the online content for STEM, the Facebook page, club forum, the Gmail (and related accounts). The PR officer is the voice of STEM club, and should be someone who works well with deadlines, has a creative eye for signage, and has practice using various computer programs (word, publisher, basic knowledge of printing, knowledge of Google services like Drive, Calendar, Gmail). While encouraged, it is not required that the PR officer attend all board or club meetings.
