I know there are a few people who want to stay updated on the cloud chamber but can't make it to all of the building/experiment meetings - I will post some notes here for anyone who'd interested!
First meeting: The first meeting (which was held feb 20th) was literally just an informative meeting/planning meeting. We discussed how we would make the chamber, where we would get the parts and so on.
Since then i've ordered the tank and the alcohol to use in it, planning on buying more materials this week. (2/25/14)
First experiment run: Today we ran the cloud chamber for the first time, this was a "dry run" so to speak (partly because we forgot to include magnets for an experiment).
The chamber ran very smoothly, we obtained good alcohol saturation, with no leaks of any kind.
Using about 3lbs crushed dry ice we got the bottom of the chamber to operating temperature in about 40 minutes.
All members at the meeting observed rays, and they seemed to be happening about one every two seconds, likely due to poor saturation of the container.
